Creative, organized, and meticulous professional with over fifteen years experience bringing a craftsman-inspired perspective to interiors, industrial & experiential design, and fabrication. Strong ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Skillful at developing effective working and creative relationships with demanding clients, project vendors, and team members.
My high school dream was to design cars, and I initially studied transportation design in college. I eventually fell in love with furniture and architecture, and ended up designing furniture, interiors, and architectural graphics.
I am a versatile designer, with unique experience ranging from custom furniture fabrication and installation, to interior design for luxury residences and hospitality projects. In past positions, I have taken on a wide range of creative challenges, including developing site-specific art installations for high-visibility commercial projects, and seamlessly integrating typography and graphic design principles with the architectural and interior design needs of a given space. I have spent the last fifteen years collaborating with designers, architects, clients, vendors, and city planners to create special, well thought out spaces. My most current position allowed me to collaborate with engineers, the sales team, and the marketing department to develop highly functional products and the advertising assets required to sell them in a very saturated and competitive market.
My roles have required me to utilize strong project management skills, overseeing deadlines and deliverables for multiple simultaneous projects, and adjusting quickly to shifting priorities. Having worked on many small teams, I have also developed a capacity to nimbly shift roles to meet critical deadlines and otherwise get the job done.
In partnering with managers, colleagues and vendors, I am consistently flexible, and able to establish strong working partnerships with individual and teams. I am accustomed to taking initiative when I see a need or problem to be addressed, and working collaboratively to resolve concerns.
Process
Rapid iPad or pen/paper sketches help get the ideas out. The good ones nag at me until I finish them. Sometimes I return to paper to work out forms and concepts that are tough to model. Most of my ideation happens in SketchUp with quick, draft renders along the way. I add in purchased parts, constraints, light sources, and textures as I engineer and design the product. Critical examination of multiple iterations and researching existing products push me in the right direction. Then I'll create a presentation package for team review showing the best concepts (examples can be seen throughout various projects).
